GHB is usually found in clear liquid form or as a white powder material. This substances is taken orally or mixed into alcohol. Abuse is high among teens and college students. Usage of this drug is common at raves or techno parties due to it intoxicating effects. GHB is commonly referred to as the “date rape drug,” because it is can be used as a sediative causing someone to become unconscious or immobile. It has been increasingly involved in poisonings, overdoses, drug related sexual assaults and fatalities. GHB is odorless and colorless, with the exception of its slightly salty taste it is unrecognizable.
GHB is a Central Nervous System Depressant that has no medical use in the United States. Originally it was marketed in health food stores but currently the Food and Drug Association has declared GHB unsafe and illicit for use in the United States.

GHB is a very dangerous drug as it can result in respiratory depression and coma. Overdose of this drug will usually require emergency medical treatment.

GHB is sold at “rave” parties for about $10 a capful or “swig.” Effects occur within 15-30 minutes and last up to three hours.
