Tobacco is a commonly used drug among all
ages. However it is an illegal drug for persons under age.
There are various types of Tobacco that produce various
effects. Tobacco use leads to a variety of cancers including:
lung, mouth, throat, pancreas and kidneys.
Nicotine is the drug in tobacco that results
in addiction. Cigarette smoking is the most popular method
of using nicotine. Tobacco use remains to be the leading
cause of preventable death according to the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention.
The nicotine found in tobacco is highly addictive
and provides an almost immediate “kick” from
the discharge of neurotransmitters from the brain. This
stimulates the Central Nervous System and the sudden release
of chemicals is followed by depression and fatigue. Therefore
users seek additional nicotine to feel better. Nicotine
is readily absorbed by the body when tobacco is smoked or
chewed. Regular use of tobacco products result in nicotine
being built up in the system and therefore users can be
exposed to the effects of nicotine for up to twenty-four
hours.
